The finalists selected are: The Dialectic of the Hemlock, The Insufficiency of Negative Rights for Children, The Formal Failure and Social Success of Logic, Theorizing Progress in the Black Canoe, and Defending the Kantian Approach to Justification and Legitimacy.

The first submission deadline is reached for submissions for the prize. Applicants from 12 different Canadian undergraduate schools have submitted papers across Canada ranging from UPEI in Charlottetown to UVic in Victoria.

The board voted unanimously to seek sponsorship under The Winnipeg Foundation. A plan was put in place to raise the $2500.00 required in order to open an account with The Winnipeg Foundation.

The board met with The Winnipeg Foundation to collect information about attaining sponsorship.

The board met to strategize regarding soliciting donations and discuss preliminary requirements to be taken care of before donations could be solicited and accepted. The possibility of seeking pledges was discussed, as well as possible contributors.

The board met with Professor Keenan for brunch to seek permission to undertake the scholarship in his name. Permission granted! Particulars of the award were discussed.

The first semi-formal meeting of the Board of Directors. Agreement reached regarding the official name of the prize. Means of publicizing the award, submission guidelines, and dispersments are discussed.

The founders of the prize meet to discuss particulars of the award, and a commitment is made by each to contribute $250.00, for a total prize of $1250.00 before external contributions every year. Loose discussion surrounding the criteria for the award, adjudication between applicants, and the general philosophy of the award. General agreement that the award not be localized at the University of Winnipeg, but rather to set up a national award.

Founders of the prize meet for the first time to discuss the possibility of starting a scholarship to honour Professor Keenan's commitment and contribution to philosophy, and to celebrate his impact on the lives he has touched.
